All fire alarm systems in commercial premises need to be tested weekly to ensure that there has not been any major failure, and that the fire alarm system is in working order.
The result of the weekly test and the location of the fire call point used should be recorded, this would be recorded in a fire logbook every week and retained for any future inspection by the local fire and rescue service or any other recognised third party such as the appointed maintenance company.
Any faults or deficiencies identified should be referred to a competent person for investigation and rectification.

Power fault | Battery Fault
Depending on the make/manufacturer of the fire alarm system, this is usually indicative of the following one or more issues;
Damage to system wiring causing a loss of communication between the fire alarm panel and detectors/sounder devices.
It could indicate a blown fuse, tripped resettable breaker, non-functional charger, disconnected or faulty battery.

General Disablement | Disablement | Sounder Status
Depending on the make/manufacturer of the fire alarm system, this is usually indicative of the following one or more issues;
Devices left disabled during a service call (usually to allow time for replacement parts).
Engineers/Technicians working on-site and parts of the system have been disabled so that they can do so.
Faulty Sounder/Alarm devices within the fire alarm system, any current faults should be recorded within the Fire Alarm Logbook.

General Fault | Fault
Depending on the make/manufacturer of the fire alarm system, this is usually indicative of the following one or more issues;
Smoke or heat detectors removed from their bases or not reinstalled fully.
Faulty Smoke or Heat detectors that require replacement.
Damage to system wiring or water ingress inside the devices.

For fire detection and alarm systems it is recommended a service by a competent provider is carried out every 6 months to comply with BS 5839-1 (the British Standard for fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings in non-domestic premises).
